What Can You Play Fortnite On?

Fortnite runs on more platforms than almost any other game, and your progress, cosmetics and V-Bucks follow your Epic account across all of them. The gaps are the interesting part: Mac and iOS have a complicated history that most articles get wrong or state out of date.

Where Fortnite runs

Battle Royale is available on PC via the Epic Games Launcher, on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and on Nintendo Switch. Cross-play is on by default, so you can play with friends regardless of platform, and cross-progression means one Epic account carries your locker everywhere.

Cloud gaming services let you stream Fortnite to devices that can't run it natively, including browsers on hardware with no native client. That's the route most people use when their own device isn't supported.

Fortnite on Mac

Fortnite Battle Royale has not had a native Mac client since Epic's dispute with Apple, and this is the single most out-of-date fact on the internet about Fortnite — plenty of guides still describe a Mac download that no longer exists.

The practical route on a Mac today is cloud gaming, which runs Fortnite on a remote machine and streams it to your browser. You need a decent connection rather than a decent Mac.

Because the situation has changed more than once and may change again, check Epic's own platform page for the current position rather than trusting any article's publication date — including this one.

Fortnite on mobile

Android is straightforward: Fortnite is installable directly, and availability through app stores has shifted over time depending on the platform dispute in each region.

iOS availability has changed repeatedly and differs by region because of differing regulations on alternative app stores. That makes any fixed statement here likely to age badly, so check Epic's current guidance for your country.

Cloud streaming remains the fallback on any mobile device where the native app isn't available.

Older consoles

Fortnite doesn't run on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. These are searched surprisingly often, usually by people with an older console in the house, and the answer has always been no — the game was released after that hardware generation.

Common questions

Can you play Fortnite on a Mac?

Not with a native client — Fortnite Battle Royale hasn't had one since Epic's dispute with Apple. Cloud gaming through a browser is the working route on macOS today.

Does Fortnite progress carry between platforms?

Yes. Your locker, V-Bucks and battle pass progress belong to your Epic Games account, so they follow you to any platform you sign in on.

Is Fortnite on Xbox 360 or PS3?

No. Fortnite was never released on that console generation.
